Yesterday during my shift as an intern at Anime News Network, the editor came across a new anime streaming site. Neither of us had heard of it and we began exploring it. The site is called HiDive, and we discovered something very important (and awesome).

In the site’s “Exclusive” section, there are a ton of OVA episodes from different anime. Finding official OVAs online is very difficult (even on Cruncyroll). The only way to really see them legally is watch the OVA’s original release disc, or to watch it with an entire series collection (and some English releases don’t even come with the OVA). I am so thrilled.

Right now it seems as though most (if not all) the OVAs are from series licensed by Sentai Filmworks. There are plenty of great series licensed by them though, including a lot of KyoAni anime. They also have the OVAs for my absolute favorite anime.

Based on our intel at ANN, HiDive is looking to expand and is willing to work with other companies and licenses. Hopefully, they will get an even bigger collection of OVAs in the future.

I am not entirely sure since their website is in flux right now, but it is possible that these OVA’s were available on The Anime Network previously. However, the Anime Network is shutting down (the TV channel will still be active, though) and all of their titles have been moved over to HiDive. Or maybe these OVAs have always been available and I am just an idiot? O.o

I admit that some of these series I have not seen in their entirety (or at all ;_;), but they are on my ever-growing watchlist.

If you are interested in English dubs, they also have a wide selection and are currently releasing new dubs gradually. Since the service is brand new and I haven’t tried it myself yet, I don’t know what the quality is like. But I will be sure to update this when I try out the service.

There is one thing that I need to point out… anything that is a HiDive exclusive, such as all of these OVAs, require a premium membership. The good news is that the membership is only $3.99 a month. Plus, there is a TON of other anime series on this site. I think it is well worth the investment :3
