Rai’s Third Anniversary Special

This is a little late but… yay! My blog has been alive for three years. Through a lot of ups, downs, and hiatuses, it still managed to survive somehow.

Thank you for everyone who has visited, read, liked, retweeted, or commented on my blog. Even if I’m terrible at replying back, I really appreciate everyone who takes the time to stop by. It means a lot to me when I see positive comments. Seriously, thanks for everything! ^_^ I can’t say thank you enough.

I promise I’ll get better at replying and commenting back… eventually ;_;

Future Goals

Before I do my showcase, I want to talk a little but about my plans for the blog. My current goal is to write a couple posts per month, even if it’s only one or two. At the beginning of the year, I declared I’d write one a week but that resulted in burnout. I write 8 hours a day at my job. Sometimes, my brain just needs a break ^.^;

So, blog posts may come out weekly, biweekly, triweekly… it all depends. In the end, it’s all about quality, not quantity 🙂 I have also decided not to write seasonal posts. I just can’t keep up with all the new anime series coming out. Plus, I feel that seasonal posts don’t have as much staying power as other types of articles.

In the future, you’ll see more research, analysis, interviews, reviews, freelance work, and whatever else I come up with. I have some good ideas! They’ll surface on the blog whenever I get around to it.

Looking Back

For this post, I decided to highlight some of my favorite pieces I’ve written over the years that, for whatever reason, haven’t gotten a lot of views recently. They need some love~

Just a quick note – some of these I’ve gone back and edited. But not all of them. So, please forgive me if they need some work still! My writing has gotten a lot better over time. The old posts will all get updated eventually.

Without further ado, please take some time to look back on my work!

Analysis

The Work Place In Anime – Comparing New Game and Re: Life: I watched New Game and Re:Life not longer after leaving a terrible, terrible job. These two shows depict very different work environments, and since this topic was fresh in my mind, I decided to reflect on my own experiences.

Izetta: The Last Witch- Representing A Positive Image of Witchcraft: I don’t talk about it much, but I am actually very interested in religion. For this piece, I discuss how Izetta: The Last Witch showed a positive, more accurate portrayal of witchcraft.

Is Pokemon Go Against The Morals Of The Pokemon Franchise?: A full discussion about whether Pokemon Go shares the same moral message as the main Pokemon games and anime. I still feel this way about Pokemon Go, even though I play it quite a lot ^_^;

The Colorful World Of Avatar (OWLS 2017 April Tour): An older OWLS post about how Avatar The Last Airbender represents many different “colors,” such as various ethnicities, sexualities and so on.

Angel Beats: Reliving Your Dead Dreams. Literally! (OWLS October Blog Tour): Another OWLS posts where I discuss the anime Angel Beats and how the characters all get a second chance to live out their dreams.

Reviews

Hinako and Mayu

Hinako Note Review and How Relatability Helps Us Enjoy Anime: I loved Hinako Note. I will never stop defending this anime. In this piece, I explain why I liked it so much and how relatabilty helped me enjoy it more.

Love Live! Sunshine!! Review: I am hardcore Love Live trash. However, I was a little disappointed with the end of Sunshine’s second season.

No Game No Life Volume 1 Light Novel Review: Even though I really enjoyed the No Game No Life anime a couple years back, I was very disappointed in the first light novel.

Anne Happy Review: Cute Girls, Bad Luck, and Yuri: Anne Happy is another slice of life anime that didn’t get a lot of praise. Please read my review of this great show~

English Light Novel Review: Restart ∞ Days by S0rahana: Vic’s Lab publishes light novels written by English-speaking authors. Here I review one of their English novels that caught my eye.

I’ve also been writing reviews for the OASG, but haven’t posted them all on here yet. You should definitely check them out! 😀

Other Stuff

Perfume members in Level 3 outfits

Why Perfume Is My Favorite Japanese Idol Group: This piece hasn’t gotten a lot of views… which is sacrilege. Perfume is the greatest. Go read this now! xD

The Work Place In Anime – Is New Game Realistic?: This is kind of a followup to the New Game and Re:Life piece. In it, I discuss my reactions to an interview that explains how realistic New Game is and what the work place is really like in Japan.

Interview with mynameissport, English Anisong Cover Producer: This was the very first interview I facilitated all by myself, so I am very proud of it. A big thank you to YouTube producer mynameissport for doing the interview with me!

Similar Shonen Characters: Okumura Rin and Hyakuya Yuuichiro: I don’t usually cover shonen on my blog, but I do watch it. Please check out this piece where I compare two very similar shonen characters, Okumuara Rin and Hyaukya Yuu.

Ninagawa Macbeth: A Japanese Rendition of Shakespeare’s Classic: I’m a actually big theater fan. A couple months back, I went to see a Japanese version of Shakespeare’s MacBeth, and it was beautiful.

That’s all for now. Hopefully, the rest of this year will be calmer, and I’ll be able to write more on here and also pitch to other anime sites.

Thanks again, everyone (I really can’t say it enough). I hope everyone sticks around for whatever happens next.
